if we touch a live wire we have been electrocuted but when birds sat on same wire they have not been electrocuted why?

The birds don't get electrocuted when they sit on a wire because for the following reason:

  • Since both the feet of the bird are at the same potential, the electricity doesn’t flow through them.
  • In other words, there’s no voltage difference in a single wire.
  • Also, birds are not good conductors and thus don't get shocked when they sit on electrical wires.

The birds do not get electrocuted due to the zero potential difference.

  • When the bird is sitting on the first phase and do not touching the other wire there the potential difference is zero.
  • But when the bird is sitting on the wire and touch the ground, this will lead to transfer of charge that creates the potential difference
  • And that will give them electric shook.
  • Also the potential difference created due to flow of charge.
  • But when they are sitting on one wire there is only one type charge flowing that doesn't create potential difference.
