If the DC motor is being used as a generator, then it will produce a pulsating DC output because of the rectifying action of the commutator rings and the brushes. The coil will have AC flowing in it for sure, but the commutator rings and brushes will make sure that a pulsating voltage with single polarity is pushed out of the supply pins.
