multiplying nr and dr by conjugate of 1 - √2

=> 1/x = (1 + √2)/-1

=> 1/x = -1 - √2

now x - 1/x = 1 - √2 - (-1 - √2)

=> 1 - √2 + 1 + √2

=> 2

therefore (x - 1/x)³ = 2³ => 8
