Step-by-step explanation:

GIVEN THAT

-1/2 IS ROOT OF THIS FUNCTION f(x)

GIVEN FUNCTION

8x^3-ax^2-x+2

SO PUT THE X VALUE IN THE GIVEN FUNCTION

WE GET

= 8.(-1/2)^3-a.(-1/2)^2-(-1/2)+2

= -1-a/4+1/2+2

= -a/4+1/2+2-1

= -a/4+4/2

= -a/4+2

this will be equal to zero because on roots are those numbers or quantities that make the function value zero

= -a/4+2=0

=-a/4=-2

= -a=-8

Divifing both sides by -1 we get

= a=8

HENCE a=8
