putting the value of x = -1/2 in the equation

8(-1/2)³ - k = 0

8*(-1)/8 - k = 0

k = -1

x =  \frac{ - 1}{2}   \\ p(x) = 8 {x}^{3} - k \\ p( \frac{ - 1}{2} ) = 8( {  \frac{ - 1}{2} })^{3}  - k = 0 \\  =  > 8 \times  \frac{ \:( - 1)}{8}  - k = 0 \\  =  >  - 1 - k = 0 \\  =  > k =  - 1
