Answer

x = 3

Given

x+1, 3x and 4x+2 are in arithmetic progression

To Find

Value of x

Key points

If a,b,c are in AP ,

⇒ b-a = c-b

2b = c + a

Solution

Here , x+1 , 3x , 4x+2 are in AP ,

Now , Compare these with a,b,c ,

  • a = x + 1 , b = 3x , c = 4x + 2

For AP condition is given in key point ,

⇒ 2b = c + a

⇒ 2(3x) = (4x + 2) + (x + 1)

⇒ 6x = 5x + 3

⇒ 6x - 5x = 3

⇒ x = 3

So , Value of x is 3
