p(x) = ax²+x² - 2x + b

If x-1 and x+1 are factors of ax²+x² - 2x + b, then x = 1 and x = -1 are zeroes

p(1) = a+1-2+b = 0

a+b = 1 ..... (1)

p(-1) = a+1+2+b = 0

a + b = -3 ..... (2)

The equations (1) and (2) does not have any common solutions, hence there is no possible values of a and b for which the condition given in the question can be satisfied
