8x - ay + a^2 = 0

put x = 1 and y = 6.

 8(1) + a(6) + a^2 = 0

 8 + 6a + a^2 = 0

 a^2 + 2a + 4a + 8 = 0 \\  \implies a(a+2) + 4(a+2) = 0 \\  \implies (a+2)(a+4) = 0

Thus, a = 2 and a = 4 .......

8x-ay+a^2=0

8-6a+a^2=0

a^2-6a+8=0

a^2-4a-2a+8=0

a(a-4)-2(a-4)=0

(a-2)(a-4)=0

a=2 or a=4
