so,

${x}^{2} + \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} } = {(x + \frac{1}{x} )}^{2} - 2 = {2}^{2} - 2 = 4 - 2 = 2$

now,

$( {x}^{4} + \frac{1 }{ {x}^{4} } ) = {( {x}^{2} + \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} } )}^{2} - 2 = {2}^{2} - 2 = 4 - 2 = 2$
