Correct question:

If x + 1 is a factor of polynomial 2x² + kx, then find k

Solution:

By applying Factor theorem,

x + 1 = 0

→ x = -1

Substitute this value of x in the polynomial and equate it to zero to find out the value of k.

p(x) = 2x² + kx = 0

Now, when x = -1;

p(-1) = 2(-1)² + k(-1) = 0

⇒ p(-1) = 2(1) - k = 0

⇒ 2 - k = 0

⇒ k = 2

∴ The value of k = 2

solutions:

x+1) 2x2+4x ( 2x

2x2+2x

---------------

+2x

-----------------

P(x) =g(x)×q(x) +r(x)

dividend=divisor×question+remainder

2x2+4x = x+1 × 2x + 2x

2x2+4x = 2x2+4x
