Given,

  • (x-1) is a factor of x^2-2kx+1

To find,

  • Value of k

Solution,

If x-1 is a factor of x²-2kx +1 then the value of k is 1.

If (x-1) is a factor of x^2-2kx+1 then x= 1 must satisfy the given equation.

      p(x) = x^2-2kx+1

      p(1) = (1)² - 2k(1) +1

            = 1 -2k +1

            = 2-2k

It is given that x-1 is a factor of x^2-2kx+1, then

          2-2k = 0

            -2k = -2

               k = 1

Hence, the value of k if x-1 is a factor of x^2-2kx+1 is  1.
