Given :

  • \tt\small{(x+1)\: is\: a \:factor\: of \:x² \:-\: kx \:+ \:3k}\tt\small{ - \:7}

To Find :

  • \tt\small{Value \:of \:k \:= \:?}

Solution :

\tt\small{As, \:(x+1)\: is\: a \:factor \:of \:x²\: -\: kx \:+\:3k\:-\:7}\tt\small{7.}

x + 1 = 0

x = - 1

Hence, x = - 1 is root of x² - kx + 3k - 7.

⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀

Therefore, We can write

p(x) = x² - kx + 3k - 7 as :

⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀

p(-1) = (-1)² - k(-1) + 3k - 7 = 0

 \sf : \implies 1 + k + 3k - 7 = 0

 \sf : \implies 4k - 6 = 0

 \sf : \implies 4k = 6

 \sf : \implies k = \dfrac{\cancel{6}^{3}}{\cancel{4}_{2}}

 \sf : \implies k = \dfrac{3}{2}

Therefore, value of k =  \sf \dfrac{3}{2}
