(x+(1/x))=4
Squaring both sides

(x+(1/x))²=4²
x²+(1/x)²+2x(1/x) = 16
x²+(1/x²)+2=16
x²+(1/x²)=14

Given, x+1/x = 4
           x + 1 = 4x
           3x = 1
           x = 1/3
x² + 1/ x² = (1/3)² + 1 / (1/3)²
                 = 1/9 + 1 / 1/9
                 = 10 / 1
                 = 10
∴ x²+1 / x² = 10

Hope my answer helps you..
