Given Equation is x + 1/x = 12.


We know that (x - 1/x)^2 = (x + 1/x)^2 - 4

                                        = (12)^2 - 4

                                        = 144 - 4

                                        = 140.



(x - 1/x)^2 = 140

$(x - \frac{1}{x}) = \sqrt{140}$

$(x - \frac{1}{x} ) = 2 \sqrt{35}$
