==> $(x-\frac{1}{x})^2 = 3^2$

==> $x^2 +\frac{1}{x^2}-2(x)(\frac{1}{x})=9$

==> $x^2 + \frac{1}{x^2}-2=9$

==> $x^2 +\frac{1}{x^2}=9+2$

∴ $x^2 + \frac{1}{x^2}=11$

Answer: x^2 + 1/x^2 = 11
