==> (x-\frac{1}{x})^2 = 3^2

==> x^2 +\frac{1}{x^2}-2(x)(\frac{1}{x})=9

==> x^2 + \frac{1}{x^2}-2=9

==> x^2 +\frac{1}{x^2}=9+2

x^2 + \frac{1}{x^2}=11

Answer: x^2 + 1/x^2 = 11
