Given ,

(x+1)/x = 3

=>x+1=3x

=>3x-x=1

=>2x =1

=>x=1/2

Therefore , x=1/2 or 0.5

Now substituting x in the unsolved equation...

$x {}^{2} - 1 \div x {}^{2}$

=

$(1 \div 2) {}^{2} - 1 \div (1 \div 2) {}^{2}$

=(1/4-1)/(1/4)

=-3
