x + 1/x = 4 ----( 1 )
x² + 1/x² = 10 ----( 2 )
( x - 1/x )² = x² + 1/x² - 2 × x × 1/x
= 10 - 2
= 8
Therefore ,
x - 1/x = √8
= ± 2√2

i m sure
square on both side of equation x+1/x
nd u will understand
i have also asked this from my teacher
she too didn't know the reason
my teacher has asked to add both given equations and replace (x+1/x) by 16
by squaring both sides
