if x+1/x =4 and x^2+1/x^2=10 find the value of x-1/x

Hi ,

x + 1/x = 4 ----( 1 )

x² + 1/x² = 10 ----( 2 )

( x - 1/x )² = x² + 1/x² - 2 × x × 1/x

= 10 - 2

= 8

Therefore ,

x - 1/x = √8

= ± 2√2
