$x - \frac{1}{x} = 5 \\ take \: square \: both \: side \\ ( {x - \frac{1}{x} )}^{2} = 25 \\ open \: identity \\ {x}^{2} - 2 + \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} } = 25 \\ {x}^{2} + \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} } = 25 + 2 \\ {x}^{2} + \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} } = 27$
