$⟹  {(x + \frac{1}{x})}^{2} = {5}^{2}$

$⟹  {x}^{2} + 2 \times x \times \frac{1}{x} + \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} } = 25$

$⟹ {x}^{2}   + \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} } = 25 - 2$

$⟹ {x}^{2} + \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} } = 23$
