x+1/x=6---(1)
Do square both sides of (1)
(x+1/x)^2=6^2
x^2+1/x^2+2*x*1/x=36
x^2+1/x^2+2=36
Therefore
x^2+1/x^2=36-2=34
Do square both sides of (1)
(x+1/x)^2=6^2
x^2+1/x^2+2*x*1/x=36
x^2+1/x^2+2=36
Therefore
x^2+1/x^2=36-2=34
