a^2x + ay = 3
putting the values x=1 and y=2
a^2+2a= 3
a^2 +2a -3=0
a^2 + 3a - a - 3 = 0
a(a+3) -1(a+3)=0
(a-1)(a+3)=0
so either a-1=0 so a=1
or a+3=0 so a=-3
therefore values of 'a' are -3 and 1,
