If x=1, y=2 is solution of equation a2x + ay = 3. Find value of a.
Plz note that in equation a2x + ay = 3, it's a square x + ay= 3. I.e 2 is power of a.

Since x=1 and y=2 is a solution, it satisfies the equation.
So
 {a}^{2}  \times 1 + a \times 2 = 3 \\  {a}^{2}  + 2a - 3 = 0 \\ (a + 3)(a - 1) = 0 \\ a =  - 3 \:  \: or \:  \: 1

Answer:

a = -3 or a=1

Step-by-step explanation:

Equation is  a^2x+ay = 3 ..............(1)

To find the value of a, Put x = 1 and y = 2 in (1)

We get,

 a^2(1) + a(2) =3

 a^2 + 2a = 3

 a^2 +2a-3 = 0

Splitting the middle term,

 a^2 +3a - a -3 = 0

a(a+3) -1(a+3) = 0

(a-1)(a+3) = 0

a-1 = 0 or a-3 = 0

a = -3 or a = 1
