If x= √2+1/√2-1 and y= √2-1/√2+1 find the value of x raise to 2 and y raise to 2\

We have :-

 = > x = \frac{ \sqrt{2} + 1 }{ \sqrt{2 } - 1 } \: \: \: and \: \: \: y = \frac{ \sqrt{2} - 1 }{ \sqrt{2} + 1 }

After rationalising the denominator, we get :-

 = > x = 3 + 2 \sqrt{2} \: \: \: and \: \: \: y = 3 - 2 \sqrt{2} \\ = > x {}^{2} = 17 + 12 \sqrt{2} \: \: \: and \: \: \: y^{2} = 17 - 12 \sqrt{2}
