x =    √2 + 1   =       (√2 + 1) (√2 +1)    =      (√2 + 1)²    = 3 + 2√2+1= 3+2√2

        √2 - 1               (√2 - 1) (√2 + 1)            (√2)² - 1²           2 - 1

= (3+2√2+)² =  9 + 8 + 12√2 = 17 + 12√2

y =   √2 - 1    =     (√2 - 1) (√2 - 1)    =  (√2 - 1)²    =  3 - 2√2

        √2 + 1           (√2 + 1) (√2 -1)           2 - 1

y² = (3-2√2)² =  9 + 8  - 12√2 = 17 - 12√2

xy =   (3+2√2) (3-2√2) = 9 - 8 = 1

x² + y² + xy = 17 + 12√2 + 17 - 12√2 + 1 = 35
