$zeros \: of \: x + 2 = 0 \\ x = - 2 \\ \\ p(x) = x + \frac{1}{x} \\ \\ p( - 2) = - 2 + \frac{1}{ - 2} \\ \\ therefore \: the \: value \: of \: x = 1$
