if x = 2 + √3
x + 1 / x
= 2 + √3 + 1 / 2 + √3
= 3 + √3 / 2 + √3 x 2 - √3 / 2 - √3
= 6 -3√3 + 2√3 - 3 / 4 - 3
= 3 - √3
x + 1 / x
= 2 + √3 + 1 / 2 + √3
= 3 + √3 / 2 + √3 x 2 - √3 / 2 - √3
= 6 -3√3 + 2√3 - 3 / 4 - 3
= 3 - √3
