Given:

x = 2√6 + 5

To find:

x^2 – 10x – 1

Solution:

x = 2√6 + 5

(x – 5)^2 – (2√6)^2

 \Longrightarrow \: x {}^{2}  + 25 - 10x = 4 \times 6

\Longrightarrow \: x {}^{2}   - 10x + 25 = 24 \\  \\ \Longrightarrow {x}^{2}  - 10x + 25 = 24 \\  \\\Longrightarrow {x}^{2}   - 10x + 25 - 24 = 0 \\  \\ \Longrightarrow {x}^{2}  - 10x + 1 = 0 \\  \\ \Longrightarrow {x}^{2}  - 10x + 1  - 2 = 0 - 2 \\  \\ \Longrightarrow {x}^{2}  - 10x - 1 =  - 2 \\

Hence,  {x}^{2}  - 10x - 1 = - 2
