Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:(x^2 - y^2) = 10...(1)

(x + y) = 2...(2)

We know that (x + y)^2 = x^2 + y^2 + 2xy

(2)

=> x + y = 2

=> (x + y)^2 = 4

=> x^2 + y^2 + 2xy = 4

Also from (1)

(x^2 - y^2) = 10

So we have x^2 + y^2 + 2xy - x^2 + y^2 = 4 - 10

=> 2y^2 + 2xy = -6

=> 2y(x+y) = -6

=> 2y(2) = -6

=> y = -3/2

x + y = 2

=> x - 3/2 = 2

=> x = 2 + 3/2

=> x = 7/2

Therefore x = 7/2 and y = -3/2

(x+y)= 2 and (x-y)= 5
