- x = -1/2, (x^3 - 1)/x^3 = (-9/8)/(-1/8) = 9 [or, (x^3 - 1)/x^3 = 1 - (1/x^3) = 1 - (-8) = 9] If it's the latter, then Madhukar has it wrapped up, and x = (3 ± √13)/2 [ <-- and you don't even need to get this intermediate result], and x^3 - (1/x^3) = 36. In math questions, you MUST be as explicit and precise as possible. ?
