(x + y) =  \frac{3}{4}  +  \frac{2}{3}  =  \frac{9 + 8}{12}  =  \frac{17}{12}

(x - y) =  \frac{3}{4}  -  \frac{2}{3}  =  \frac{9 - 8}{12}  =  \frac{1}{12}
