If x = 3 + √8 find x - 1 by x ( 1 is divided by x alone )

 x=\sqrt{8}  +3

 x-\frac{1}{x}

= 3+\sqrt{8}  -(\frac{3-\sqrt{8}}{(3+\sqrt{8})(3-\sqrt{8}}   )

 =3+\sqrt{8}  -(\frac{3-\sqrt{8}}{(9-8)}   )

= 3+\sqrt{8}  -(3-\sqrt{8)}

= 3+\sqrt{8}  -3+\sqrt{8}

= 2\sqrt{8}
