Given :- x = 3, y = 27

To Find :- x : y :: y : ?

Concept used :- if a : b :: c : d then,

  • Product of means = Product of extremes .
  • b × c = a × d

Solution :-

comparing x : y :: y : ? with a : b :: c : d we get,

  • a = x
  • b = y
  • c = y
  • d = ?

So,

→ Product of means = Product of extremes .

b × c = a × d

→ y × y = x × d

putting given values of x and y,

→ 27 × 27 = 3 × d

→ 3 × 9 × 27 = 3 × d

dividing both sides by 3,

→ 9 × 27 = d

→ d = 243 (Ans.)

Hence, 243 will replace the " ? " .
