so substitute 3 in the place of X and easily you can find k

 {3}^{3}  - 3  \times {3}^{2} k + 3 - 12 = 0 \\ 27 - 3 \times 9k - 9 = 0 \\ 18 - 27k = 0 \\ 18 = 27k \\  \frac{18}{27}  = k \\  \frac{2}{3}  = k
