Answer: k = -21

Step-by-step explanation:

x - 3 is a factor

=>  x - 3 = 0

=> x = 3  -------   (i)

Now substituting the value of x in the polynomial, we get -

p(x) = 2x² + x + k

=>  2(3)² + (3) + k = 0             (since x-3 is a factor)

=>  2(9) + 3 + k = 0

=>  18 + 3 + k = 0

=>  21 + k = 0

=>  k = -21

Therefore the value of k is -21
