Given,

x = 3 is a solution to 3x^2 +(k-1)x + 9 =0

Put x = 3 In the given equation

3(3)^2 + (k-1)3 + 9 = 0

3 × 9 + (k - 1)3 + 9 =0 ( by BODMAS simplify the exponents first )

27 + (k-1)3 + 9 =0

36 + (k-1)3 = 0

(k-1)3 = -36

(k-1) = -36 / 3

k = -12 + 1 = -11
