x = 3
x2-2kx-6 = 0
(3)2 - 2(k)(3) - 6 =0
9 - 6k - 6 = 0
3 = 6k
k = 3/6 = 1/2
Maybe you are mistaken.. we have to find k not x
Hope this helps!!
cheers!! (:

♧♧HERE IS YOUR ANSWER♧♧
Since, x = 3 is a root of x²-2kx-6=0, x = 3 is satisfies the equation.
So,
3² - 2×k×3 - 6 = 0
=> 9 - 6k - 6 = 0
=> 6k = 3
=> k = 1/2
So the value of k is 1/2.
