 SUBSTITUTE X=3
3^2-2*3*K-6=0

9-6K-6=0

6K=3K=1/2

K=1/2

-----------------

so it is given that one of the roots of equation x² - 2kx -6=0 is 3

we have got to find the value of k.

we will put the value of x in the equation.

x² -2kx-6=0
3² -2k3-6=0
9- 6k - 6 = 0
3-6k= 0
-6k=-3
k=1/2

------------------------------------

hope it helps :^)
