To Find :

  • we need to find the value of a and b .

Solution :

Firstly we will divide the given polynomial by x² - x after that we will find the Value of a and b .

Then let's solve :

x² - x ) x³ + x² - ax + b ( x + 2

⠀⠀⠀⠀ x³ - x²

⠀⠀⠀⠀ -- ⠀+⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2x² - ax + b

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2x² - 2x

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ --⠀ ⠀+⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2x - ax + b

x² - x can be written as

x(x - 1) = 0

x - 1 = 0

x = 1

So, x - 1 is a factor of given polynomial.

Remainder = 2x - ax + b

Quotient = x + 2

2x - ax + b

= x(2 - a) = 0

= (2 - a) = 0

  • a = 2
  • b = 0
