ANSWER IS:

GIVEN;

3sec^2 theta -1=x,3tan^2 theta -2=y

x-y=

3sec^2theta-1-3tan^2theta+2

by rearranging

3sec^2theta-3tan^2theta-1+2

3(sec^2theta-tan^2theta)+1

by identities in trigonometry

sec^2theta-tan^2theta=1

That gives;

3+1=4.

So,x-y=4

Hope this helps....
