according to question :

x - y :

3sec^2theta - 3tan^2theta

taking 3 common,

3 (sec^2theta + tan^2theta)

now, we know the identity :

sec^2 theta = 1 + tan^2 theta

= 3 (1 + tan^2theta + tan^2theta)

= 3 ( 1 + 2tan^2theta)

now, place the value of any acute angle in the above equation,

you'll get your answer......
