Formula used : ( a + b )² = a² + b² + 2ab

And a² + b² = ( a + b )² - 2ab

Verification :-

x + 1/x = 2

Squaring both sides we get,

( x + 1/x )² = 2²

x² + 1/x² + 2 × x × 1/x = 4

x² + 1/x² = 4 - 2 = 2

Squaring both sides we get,

( x² + 1/x² ) = 2²

x⁴ + 1/x⁴ + 2 × x² × 1/x² = 4

x⁴ + 1/x⁴ = 4 - 2 = 2

Hence our answer is correct, which is x + 1/x = 2
