Step-by-step explanation:

Given If x ,4, y are successive terms in arithmetic sequence and x, 3 ,y are successive terms in geometric sequence. Calculate 1/x +1/y.

  • According to property of A.P t he middle number is doubled hence we can write as
  • So x + y = 4 x 2
  • Or x + y = 8
  • Now x,3,y are in G.P. So
  • 3 = √xy
  • Or xy = 9
  • Now we need to find 1/x + 1/y
  •                               = x + y / xy
  •                               = 8 / 9
