GIVEN :

x - 4y = 16 ____(1)

x - 3y = 10 ____(2)

TO FIND :

The value of x - y .

SOLUTION:

Subtract (1) and (2) ,,,,

(1) => x - 4y = 16

(2) => x - 3y = 10

(-) (+) (-)

________________

-y = 6

y = -6

Substitute the value of y = -6 in (1),,,

(3) => x - 4(-6) = 16

x + 24 = 16

x = 16 - 24

x = -8

The value of x and y is -8 and -6 .

x - y = -8 - (-6)

= -8 + 6

x - y = -2
