if x+5 is the mean proportionate between x+2 and x+9,find x​

Solution :-

Mean proportional :- Is a number that comes between two other numbers and which satisfies the equation a/x = x/b.

Given :-

x = (x + 5)

→ a = (x + 2)

→ b = (x + 9)

Putting values we get :-

(x + 2) / (x + 5) = (x + 5) / (x + 9)

Cross - Multiply,

→ (x + 5)² = (x + 2)(x + 9)

→ x² + 25 + 10x = x² + 11x + 18

cancel x² from both sides,

→ 11x - 10x = 25 - 18

→ x = 7 (Ans).

as according to question

x+5=x+2+x+3+x+4+x+5+x+6+x+7+x+8+x+9/2

2(x+5)=8x+44

2x+10-8x-44

-6x -34

-(6x+34)

6x= -34

x= -34/6

x= -5.6
