Answer:

a= -8

Step-by-step explanation:

(x+a)(x+b)=x^2+(a+b)x+ab

(x-5) (x-3)=x^2+(-5-3)x+(-3)×(-5)

=x^2-8x+15

Given :  (x-5) (x-3) =x²+ax-15

To Find :  Value of a

Solution:

(x-5) (x-3) =x²+ax-15

Using Distributive property on LHS

=> (x-5)x - (x - 5)3  = x²+ax-15

=> x² - 5x  - 3x + 15 = x²+ax-15

=> x² - 8x  + 15 =  x²+ax-15

=> -8x + 15 = ax - 15

=> xa = -8x + 30

=> a = ( -8x + 30)/x

There must be some mistake in data

Few possibilities

(x-5) (x-3) =x²+ax+ 15  => a = - 8

(x-5) (x-3) =x²-ax+ 15  => a =   8

(x-5) (x+3) =x²+ax-15 => a = - 2

(x+5) (x-3) =x²+ax-15 => a =   2
