Answer :

x = 7

Solution :

  • Given : √(x - 7) + √(x - 3) = 2
  • To find : x = ?

We have ;

=> √(x - 7) + √(x - 3) = 2

=> √(x - 7) = 2 - √(x - 3)

Now ,

Squaring both the sides , we get ;

=> [√(x - 7) ]² = [ 2 - √(x - 3) ]²

=> x - 7 = 2² + [√(x - 3) ]² - 2•2•√(x - 3)

=> x - 7 = 4 + x - 3 - 4√(x - 3)

=> -7 = 1 - 4√(x - 3)

=> 4√(x - 3) = 1 + 7

=> 4√(x - 3) = 8

=> √(x - 3) = 8/4

=> √(x - 3) = 2

Now ,

Again squaring both the sides , we get ;

=> [√(x - 3) ]² = 2²

=> x - 3 = 4

=> x = 4 + 3

=> x = 7

Hence x = 7 .
