If x=a,y=b is the solution of the equations x−y=2 and x+y=4, then the values of a and b are, respectively:

Given, x−y=2 and x+y=4.

Adding both the equations, we get 2x=6

⇒x=3

Putting the value of x in one of the equations, we get

3−y=2 ⇒y=1

As stated in the question, x=a and y=b.

Thus, a=3 and b=1
