If x = a and y = b is the solution of the equations x- y = 2 and x + y = 4, then the values of a and b are, respectively

Answer:

x-y=2...... (1)

x+y=4...... (2)

by elimination method we eliminate y,

we get,2x=6

X=3

Now substitute the value of x in (2)

x+y=4

3+y=4

y=4-3

y=1

since x=a

y=b

a=3

b=1
