if x=a and y=b is the solution of the equations x+y =8 and x-y=2 then find the value of a and b

x=a and y=b
x+y=8
putting the values of x and y
a+b=8 - eq. 1
x-y=2
putting the values
a-b=2 - eq.2
putting eq.1 in eq.2
8-b-b=2
b=3

therefore putting the value of b in eq 1
we get
3+a=8
a=5

x+y=8 (eq1)

x-y=2(eq2)

adding eq2 and eq 1

x+y+x-y=8-2

⇒2x=6

⇒x=6/2=3

x+y=8

⇒3+y=8

⇒y=8-3=5

therefore,x=a=3 and y=b=5
