$x + a = 0$

$x = - a$

$p(x) = x^3 + ax^2 - 3x + a + 5 = 0$

$p(-a) = (-a)^3 + a×(-a)^2 - 3×(-a) + 5 = 0$

$=> -a^3 + a^3 +3a + 5 = 0$

$=> 3a +5 = 0$

$=> a = \dfrac{-5}{3}$
